Hannah Allston Brooks

Hello, I’m Hannah Brooks, Executive Director here at Heart.

After graduating from ACSHS in 1999, I moved to Charleston, South Carolina.

I spent the first few years in Charleston working as a graphic designer with the city’s premier sign company. I had the privilege of working in the heart of Charleston’s historic district, designing signs and displays for businesses, museums, stadiums, developers, and more. It was an incredible education in marketing and design!

Experiencing my first ever taste of creative burnout, I transitioned to an entirely different role, serving as Practice Manager for a large medical practice in North Charleston. I had the joy of managing a large team and developing a new set of team and project management skills. Together, we tackled big projects and saw the practice grow by leaps and bounds.

After nearly ten years with the practice, I left to pursue more balance. I learned that I need a mix of creative work and logical, project-based work to keep me energized and fulfilled. So I started two small businesses - a private healthcare consulting business and an event planning/design firm. It was in that sweet spot that I really began to thrive.

After becoming a mom in 2017, my perspective on just about everything began to change. Before I knew it, I was returning to put down new roots in my old Kentucky home.

Working with Heart has been a wild adventure, filled with surprises and challenges and opportunities. I love serving my neighbors in this role! My focus is on economic development and place-making. I want to share the beauty and unique culture of this community with others - and I want to help build our local businesses along the way.

I didn’t always appreciate this rural Kentucky town. I do now. I love and respect her people in ways I wasn’t able to as a teenager. I’m so grateful to be home and to have this opportunity to serve!
